Coffee Cherries

Coffee is a fruit.

The "beans" you grind and brew are the seeds within the coffee fruit. Each fruit usually contains 2 seeds.

Variety / Varietal / Cultivar

Most specialty coffee comes from the coffee family "Arabica". There are multiple plant types within the family Arabica. Some common ones are: Typica, Caturra, Bourbon, Gesha, SL-28, Heirloom, etc...

Although not commonly found in specialty coffee, there are also other family types of coffee such as Robusta, Eugenioides, Liberica, etc...

Anaerobic

Anaerobic means: without oxygen. In coffee this usually refers to a processing technique where the coffee is fermented in a low oxygen environment.
